Statement of Purpose
The purpose of this public argument is to persuade today's adolescents that the media's warped views on society should no longer hold the power it does, should no longer be the ultimate role model for acceptable behaviors, and that the adolescent's of today are all beautiful, unique individuals in their own way. In today's society, adolescents look to the media for answers to the questions of how they should dress, look, act, and even what they should like. This is amplified by the pressures they feel to fit into a social group in the school setting. Though some adolescents may become defensive when encountering this argument, stating that they don't listen to anyone but themselves, they probably still exhibit behaviors shaped by the media. It is the responsibility of The Justbeyou Campaign to let these adolescents know that they are not robots functioning in a media driven world. They are separate, wonderfully different individuals who have a voice in this world. The Justbeyou Campaign's hope is that these adolescents will be heard and that their own values and beliefs shine through, no matter what society now deems as optimal or acceptable.
